Sector briefing meeting, UMFCCI, March 23rd 2015

sectorbriefingThe half-day practice-oriented sector briefing provided the participants with the economic, legal, logistic and infrastructural parameters to be considered when assessing production opportunities in Myanmar.

The Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Myanmar gave a general introduction on Myanmar’s macroeconomic and political framework as well as development perspectives. This was followed by an in depth analysis by MGMA of the Myanmar garment sector involving a SWOT analysis. The German underwear producer ESGE, member of Gesamtmasche, which closely cooperates with SMART Myanmar and provides technical support to local garment manufacturers in the framework of a develoPPP.de project, openly shared its positive and negative practical experience when taking up production in Myanmar. TÜV Rheinland, certifying Myanmar factories according to BSCI and SA8000 (amongst others), provided an insight into its latest findings in terms of social compliance. DHL Global Forwarding briefed the participants on logistics as well as customs regulations in Myanmar. Luther Corporate Services informed on the legal environment as well as on relevant requirements for sourcing or investing in Myanmar.

The briefing meeting offered the participants a good possibility to exchange experience and views with experts, service providers and companies already active on the Myanmar market. It has been evaluated very positively by the approximately 60 participants.
